The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has reported a significant reduction in visibility in the northern and central atolls of the Maldives due to haze
The Met Office said while visibility is over 10km on a clear day, the visibility over the past 24 hours in central atolls had reduced to 5km.
Wind direction, speed, and rainfall play an important role in the decrease in visibility. The MET office attributed to prevailing easterly winds over the past few days as the cause for the current haze.
The Environment and Technology MInistry's IQ Air Visual app can be used to monitor air quality in the Maldives. According to the app, the air pollution level in the Maldives is currently categorized between 101 and 150, reaching hazardous levels for health.
Generally, the air in the Maldives tends to be less clean during the Iruvai monsoon, leading to reduced visibility.
