Voting underway in the Democrats' parliamentary primary

The Democrats have begun voting in the party's primary to determine their candidates for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Voting for the Democrats' primary began at 9:00 am and will continue until 4:00 pm today.

When the Democrats opened applications to contest the primary, 46 candidates applied to contest 41 constituencies. Tickets have already been confirmed for 37 constituencies.

The primary is being conducted for four constituencies where more than one candidate applied to contest the primary. They are Kelaa, Kanditheemu, Hulhumale South, and Henveiru South constituencies.

The opportunity remains open to apply for constituencies where no candidates have applied.

Members will be elected to 93 constituencies in the upcoming parliamentary elections. The Parliamentary election is scheduled for March 17, during the first week of Ramadan.
