Ooredoo Maldives has successfully connected the PEACE cable to its landing site in Kulhudhuffushi City today. This is the first time marks the first time an international submarine cable has been linked to an island outside of Hulhumale.
The ceremony held to connect the cable was inaugurated by the Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Adam Shareef said the submarine cable connection linking the Maldives, Singapore, and Europe was a great honor for Kulhudhuffushi and the entire country.
Ooredoo Maldives is investing in the submarine cable to improve internet service latency and increase capacity. The cable will enhance 5G capabilities pave the way for new technologies and effectively digitize the Maldives. Ooredoo expects the system to be operational by the third quarter of this year.
Ooredoo Maldives said with the successful connection of the landing station of the PEACE cable, the northern region of the Maldives is poised to become a hub for digital innovation, bridging opportunities to the east and west. In addition to providing hyperscale services, the opportunity to host data center services in Kulhudhuffushi will also be facilitated. Ooredoo Maldives will also develop digital businesses and software development facilities on the northern island.
