MTCC introduces flexible work arrangements to support female employees

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has decided to offer special concessions or "flexible work arrangements" to female employees. The announcement was made by MTCC's CEO Abdullah Ziyad during a ceremony commemorating Women's Day.

Ziyad said that effective from the 8th of this month, MTCC's Human Resource Department has implemented flexible work arrangements for pregnant employees and mothers with children under one year of age. In addition, pregnant employees and mothers with children under two years of age will be given a three-hour break during their workday.

Ziyad said the purpose of these concessions is to foster a supportive working environment for pregnant employees and female staff members caring for young children. One of the main goals for celebrating Women's Day is to provide equal opportunities to women along with men in various fields, he said.

Ziyad further noted that women have played a pivotal role in MTCC since its inception in 1980. He expressed pride in the contributions of female employees across all levels of the company, from senior management to technical and administrative roles.

"Even now, female employees of the company are already working as project managers, site supervisors, surveying officers. Women are also working as bus attendants, bus drivers, and security officers today," he said.

Ziyad expressed MTCC's aspiration to see women employees in traditionally male-dominated roles of welders, carpenters, heavy vehicle operators, launch operators, and crew members in the future.

“On the occasion of International Women’s Day, I would like to extend a very special thanks to all the women who have served and are serving in various fields in MTCC,” he said.
