Fayyaz summoned by police over alleged corruption tied to RDC

Former Economic Minister and MDP Chairman Fayyaz Ismail has been asked to appear before the police for questioning in connection with corruption linked to the Road Development Corporation (RDC).

Fayyaz has been ordered to present himself before the police by 3:00 pm today.

According to the summons, Fayyaz is under investigation for allegedly receiving financial benefits from the company's transactions in the alleged misallocation of company funds to RDC executives, as well as individuals and entities associated with the corporation.

In response to the summons, Fayyaz denounced the accusations and claimed the accusation was politically motivated and orchestrated by the current government.

"The alleged RDC fraud has no basis. I can assure you that I have not done anything that could bring such accusations against me,” Fayyaz said.

Despite questioning the political motivations behind the investigation, Fayyaz expressed his willingness to fully cooperate with the police. He called on the government to stop using national institutions for political agendas.

Police previously disclosed that numerous government officials were implicated in the RDC scandal during the previous administration. It has been confirmed that among the three individuals directly linked to corruption, one had MVR 11 million deposited into their account, while the other two received MVR 1 million each.
