King Salman Mosque in Male' City to open officially post-Hajj

The King Salman Mosque in Male' City is set to be officially opened following this year’s Hajj season, Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has announced.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Dr. Shaheem revealed plans to invite a distinguished Saudi official to preside over the formal opening of the Salman Mosque once the Hajj month concludes.

Dr. Shaheem explained some repairs are necessary before the official opening as the mosque has been in use despite not having been officially inaugurated. He emphasized the necessity of repairing the mosque's temperature control system and said MVR 6 million is required for the component alone. The government is actively working to secure the necessary funds, he said, adding that the maintenance of the cooling system will be handed over to a local company once the repairs are completed.

The construction of the Salman Mosque commenced during the tenure of former President Abdulla Yameen's administration and reached completion in 2020. Despite being unofficially operational since April 1, 2022, the mosque has yet to undergo its official inauguration.
