Maldives Immigration conducts first all-female led operation

Maldives Immigration's female officers have conducted an operation to track down illegal foreigners for the first time.

The operation was conducted in Male' and Hulhumale last Saturday, led entirely by female officers under the direction of Controller General of Immigration Mohamed Sham'aan Waheed.

"This is the first raid operation in the long history of Immigration conducted by only female officers," Immigration said in a statement.

Immigration said eight foreign women from Male' and six from Hulhumale were arrested in the operation. These included foreigners without valid visas and those working in places other than for the establishment for which they had obtained work permits.

The Task Force Committee set up by the government to track down illegal foreigners has conducted 33 operations so far to address the issue of illegal foreigners. More than 1,700 foreigners have been deported as a result of these efforts until now, the Immigration said.
