The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has announced plans to lay off some employees as part of its ongoing cost-cutting measures.
In a memo sent to its employees on Wednesday, the RDC said Accommodation Facility Management (AFM) managed by RDC in Hulhumale will be repurposed for other government activities. As a result, RDC will cease its AFM operations and lay off some employees. The memo assured that the dismissed employees will be treated in accordance with the Employment Act.
Finance Minister Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq told the Parliament's Public Finance Committee earlier on Wednesday that RDC has saved MVR 17 million through recent cost-cutting expenditures. He described the company as a model for other state-owned enterprises at a time when reforms in the operations of these companies are crucial to addressing the country's economic challenges.
