Foreigner damages immigration vehicle during operation

A foreigner has caused to an immigration vehicle while an operation was being conducted with the police to track down foreigners illegally conducting business in the Maldives.

In the operation held Saturday night, officers searched four take away outlets in Male’ City, and took six foreign men and one woman under immigration custody. An additional foreigner who obstructed the operation and caused damaged to the immigration vehicle was also detained.

Immigration said action would be taken against individual who interfered with the operation under the Immigration Law, and the person will be deported at the earliest.

Speaking regarding the incident, Immigration Controller Mohamed Sham’aan Waheed reaffirmed his commitment to tracking down illegal immigrants in the Maldives. He affirmed that the immigration would continue such operations without hesitation and without fear.
