Over 2,000 foreigners deported since November 2023, Immigration reports

Maldives Immigration has disclosed that 2,069 foreigners have been deported since President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu took office in November 2023 up to July 15.

Immigration is currently working to find a comprehensive solution to the illegal immigrant problem faced by the Maldives, aiming for resolution within three years. In this regard, over the past eight months, 153 locations were searched, and 2,069 foreigners were deported.

The deportees included foreigners those involved in black market foreign currency trading, prostitution, drug and gang activities, visa and document fraud, and those detained for ongoing immigration investigations.

Additionally, 1,289 foreigners working in the Maldives on tourist visas, and 341 foreigners from 22 countries who forged work permits and work visas were also stopped by authorities.

Immigration has also launched an online portal called Immigration Watch to report illegal immigrants.
