President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s request to appoint Ahmed Munawwar, Advisor to the Finance Minister, as the new Governor of the central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), has been referred to the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee for consideration.
The matter was forwarded to the committee at Tuesday’s Parliament sitting.
The President nominated Munawwar as Governor following the removal of Governor Ali Hashim on Monday. His dismissal followed a parliamentary vote in which 63 members voted in favor of recommending his removal, while nine members voted against it.
Munawwar, who served as a Finance Minister, was appointed Advisor to the Minister of Finance in December last year.
