Immigration targets foreign worker accommodations in Male’

The Maldives Immigration has launched a special operation in Male’ area aimed at identifying illegal immigrants and inspecting their unsafe living conditions and unsafe food preparation establishments.

The Immigraton has been working hard to resolve the growing illegal immigration issue faced by Maldives, in line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s special derivatives. Under this initiative, more than 3,000 people deported form the Maldives thus far.

In a recent phase of the operation, Immigration yesterday raided three houses in the city, taking 13 illegal immigrants into custody. According to Immigration, the operation focuses on locating cramped and unsafe residences occupied by foreigners, with a clear emphasis on public safety.

The agency has warned that action will be taken against those who lease out spaces to illegal immigrants under Article 33 Immigration Act, especially in cases where public safety is compromised.

The operation will continue all areas in Male’ where illegal immigrants are believed to reside. The agency's objective is to swiftly address the issue of illegal immigrants, minimize public health risk and ensure the safety and security of the public.
