Infrastructure Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib has met with Indian officials to discuss the timely completion of the Thilamale Bridge connecting Male’ with industrial island Thilafushi. The discussions took place at a special meeting held on the project during during the minister’s official visit to India.
The minister co-chaired the 12th Joint Project Monitoring Committee on the Thilamale Bridge along with Indian Ambassador to the Maldives, Munu Mahawar. The Infrastructure Ministry said the meeting involved strategic and technical level discussions aimed at ensuring that the Thilamale bridge project remains on track and reaches completion on schedule.
Currently, 43.59 percent of the Thilamale’ bridge work is complete. The project is expected to be completed in late 2025 or early 2026. The phase linking Male’ to Gulhifalhu is expected to be completed by March 31, 2026, and the link from Gulhifalhu to Thilafushi by September 30, 3026.
In addition to the minister, the meeting was attended also attended by State Ministers Ibrahim Tha’aam and Ismail Hameed, and the ministry's technical team. Senior officials from the Finance Ministry and the Foreign Affairs Ministry also attended the meeting. Indian officials from the the country’s External Affairs Ministry, Exim Bank of India and the contractor and consultants of the bridge project attended the meeting from India’s side.
