The Fisheries Ministry has launched a new project to install seawater cooling systems (RSW systems) on fishing boats.
The Fisheries Minsitry is implementing the project in collaboration with SDFC Bank. The project aims to help boat owners to install the systems by providing loans and support.
This week, the ministry's teams are scheduled to visit five islands— Thaa Hirilandhoo, Thaa Veymandoo, Lhaviyani Naifaru, Shaviyani Komandoo, and Haa Dhaalu Ihavandhoo. Of these, SDFC teams will be active on three islands: Hirilandhoo, Veymandoo and Naifaru. The main objective of the teams is to provide information to fishermen and councils and to provide assistance to boat owners interested in the facility.
The government plans to issue loans to 100 boats to install the RSW system. The ministry said it would also hold discussions with fishermen and boat owners to further strengthen the project.
