The bridge project to connect Hithadhoo and Hulhumeedhoo of southernmost Addu City will commence next year. The announcement was made by Finance Minister Moosa Zameer while presenting the proposed budget for next year in Parliament on Thursday.
The government awarded the feasibility study and design of the Addu Bridge project to The Arab Contractors, an Egyptian government company, on February 19 this year. The company is conducting surveys for the bridge project at no cost to the government.
A 13-15 km long bridge has to be built to connect Hulhumeedhoo and Hithadhoo. Connecting the two islands is a presidential pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. He had expressed hope to commence the project within the first year of his administration.
