VIA sees five percent rise in int'l flight movements

Velana International Airport (VIA) recorded a five percent increase in international flight movements from January to September this year, according to data from the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

The data shows the number of international flight movements at the VIA rose to 12,264 by the end of September, up from 11,684 in the same period last year. Of these flights, 11,281 were scheduled commercial flights, while 983 were charter and private flights.

According to the Tourism Ministry, 42 airlines from 22 countries operate flights to the Maldives as of July this year. Over 1.49 million tourists had visited the Maldives as of end of September this year.
