Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has announced plans to develop cruise liner terminals in four areas across the Maldives.
MPL's Research and Development Consultant Aneel Adam said the cruise liner terminals will be developed in HA. Uligan, L. Fonadhoo, Addu City, and Male' Area. The project will be carried out with input and advice from technical experts, and feasibility studies are currently underway in collaboration with a Greek firm.
Aneel expressed confidence that the project would come to fruition, noting that the plans for Male' area are already in place. Work is set to commence at the Male' Commercial Harbor site once the harbor's operations are shifted to the industrial island, Thilafushi.
Maldives is a globally sought-after tourism destination. The lack of a designated terminal for cruise liners is a recurring concern raised by tourists who visit the Maldives by sea.
