Over 1,000 tonnes of goods have been exported from the Maldives since the launch of the sea-to-air cargo service.
Launched as a joint venture between Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), and Maldives Customs Service, the service aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision to diversify the economy. The service enables seamless transit of goods arriving by sea and departing by air. Currently, goods are being transported to 13 countries, through partnerships with 12 airlines.
According to MPL's CEO Mohamed Wajeeh Ismail, the service has been expanding at a rapid pace since its launch and has so far generated more than $3 million in revenue. In October alone, 96 containers carrying 418 tonnes of goods were shipped to other countries via air.
