French family living illegally in the Maldives to be deported

Immigration Controller Mohamed Sham’aan Waheed has stated that a French family illegally living in the Maldives will be deported.

A local newspaper on Sunday published a report on the family, stating that they had been living in the Maldives without a valid visa for the past 12 years. The family currently resides in a rented house in Thaa Veymandoo.

In a social media post, the Controller said the authority’s Immigration Watch was tipped off regarding the six-person family on July 18 this year. The case was investigated and the primary person involved in the case was summoned to Immigration on October 23, he said. The travel documents required to deport the family are now being obtained in collaboration with the Foreign Ministry, he added.

‘As soon as their travel documents are received, they will be deported. We will not allow anyone to reside in the Maldives in violation of Immigration laws,’ he stated.
