Statistics publicised by the Tourism Ministry have shown that 69.5 percent of tourists visiting the Maldives this year holidayed at resorts.
According to the data, 77,727 tourists had visited the Maldives as of 12 January. Of these, 54,046 (69.5 percent) spent their time in Maldives at resorts. While 19,599 (25.2 percent) opted for local guesthouses, a smaller number chose hotels and safari vessels, with 2,044 tourists staying at hotels and 2,034 at safari vessels.
The number of tourists that visited the Maldives thus far this year has seen a 12.2 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The top ten countries for Maldives tourism are currently as follows:

Italy: 9,478 tourists
UK: 6,282 tourists
China: 4,979 tourists
Germany: 4,904 tourists
Indian 3,596 tourists
USA: 2,536 tourists
France: 2,193 tourists
Kazakstan: 1,808 tourists
Romania: 1,733 tourists
The Maldives currently operates 172 tourist resorts, 929 guesthouses, 155 safari vessels and 15 hotels. The total number of tourist beds available across these establishments is 63,248.
