An amendment has been proposed to the Parliament rules aiming to reduce the time frame for summoning individuals to parliamentary committees and providing documents. The amendment was proposed by Ihavandhoo MP Ahmed Naseer.

Currently, Article 180 (d) of the Parliament rules states that any individual may be summoned to a parliamentary committee while providing a five-day notice, excluding holidays, from the date of the decision to summon. The proposed amendment seeks to shorten this period to three days, including holidays.

Additionally, Article 180(h) currently grants five days, excluding holidays, for the provision of requested documents and clarifications unless specified otherwise. According to the proposed amendment, the period granted to provide the documents or clarifications will be shortened to three days, including holidays.

The matter has been referred to the General Committee for consideration.
