The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to temporarily hand over the administration of the High Court to Judge Mohamed Faisal following the appointment of the court’s Chief Judge Hussain Shaheed as the Supreme Court justice.

Shaheed, was appointed as a Supreme Court Justice on Wednesday. Judge Faisal was also handed over the administration of the High Court the same day. While the High Court bench will now be short of one judge, the JSC has not yet opened application for the post of High Court judge.

Faisal is the second most senior of the 10 judges currently serving in the High Court. The most senior judge is Mohamed Niyaz, who is currently the Vice President of the JSC.

Justice Faisal holds a degree in Shariah and Law from Kulliyatul-Dhiraasathul Islamiyya. Faisal was sworn in as a High Court judge on July 24, 2018.

Judge Faisal has previously held positions as a member of the Judicial Service Commission and as its Vice-President. He has also practiced law in the judicial courts.
