The Türkiye government has decided to donate a navy ship with missile-launching capabilities to the Maldives.
The Defence Ministry Saturday confirmed the news after Turkish newspapers reported that the Turkish government has decided to donate a missile launcher to the Maldives.
Türkiye is donating a Dogan class ship to the Maldives as free aid, the Defense Ministry said in a statement. Maldivian officers are currently undergoing training in Türkiye in preparation to assume control of the vessel.
The Defence Ministry said safeguarding the country’s independence and sovereignty remains a top priority for President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. The government is working to achieve the goal by strengthening relations with allied nations, the Ministry said.
President Muizzu's government has previously acquired two drones from Türkiye for use in military and rescue operations.
