The MDP last held an extraordinary congress in 2022 under the leadership of then-President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, with more than 1,100 delegates in attendance at the event.

According to the MDP Constitution, the party's congress will be held every five years. However, the Constitution does not specify fixed dates for an extraordinary sessions.
