Guarantee fair price for fishermen: MIFCO

Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO) has revealed that the company will ensure that a fair price is given for the fish sold by fishermen to the company.

In a statement released by MIFCO, the company said they will always seek to implement measures that will benefit fishermen and will always address the needs of the fishermen. The statement added that the company, in the past, had facilitated easy access to diesel and ice purchase, in addition to fish purchases.

MIFCO said they had always brought in changes to the diesel and ice prices based on market condition. As such, the statement noted that in February 2016, the company had slashed MVR 310 from the price of ice. The price of diesel had been reduced by MVR 3.20 to MVR 7.30 with the assistance of STO.

"The global tuna prices are dipping lower. In spite of this, we have greatly reduced the internal operating costs, and passed on the surplus to the fishermen. The company had worked with the Government to keep the prices level," the MIFCO statement said.
