Regent Maldives has said the 53 room Maagiri Hotel will be opened this year.
The project is a joint venture of a group of local businessmen.
Lily Shipping Chair Malla Ahmed Nasir (Malla Naabe), one of the shareholders of the project, estimated that the property will be opened after Ramadan.
"The hotel will be opened soon. All concrete work is now complete; interior work now progressing. This phase cannot be carried out as quickly. But we hope to open it soon," Naabe said.
He said the property was owned by former First Lady Naseema, spouse of President Ibrahim Nasir.
"Naseema said when tourists first came, they stayed in the house," Naabe said.
While Maagiri Hotel is nearing completion, an additional hotel is being built in the Nasandura Palace Hotel grounds.
