A Maldivian serving a jail sentence in a Syrian jail has passed away. Foreign Ministry said Ibrahim Abdul Rahman had spent 10 years in jail, but had not released additional information.
Foreign Ministry said he had died of medical complications.
Ibrahim was jailed for 10 years. At the time of death he had completed his jail term but had not been able to return back home due to some incomplete administrative procedures. No details on his charges had been made public.
Foreign Ministry said his family has been notified of his death and the Ministry was making funeral arrangements. Ministry added that they had been briefing the family of his condition and status from the day his sentence was carried out.
