Opposition calls for interim govt., announces shadow cabinet

Maldives United Opposition has called to disband the current Government before the next elections and to form an interim government. The opposition had also formed a shadow cabinet.

Speaking to press after the signing of the agreement to form the coalition, former President Mohamed Nasheed said an interim government before the elections of 2018 in order to facilitate an independent fair elections. Nasheed added the government that would be elected would facilitate reform into the judiciary and revert to democracy.

"I hope to see Dr. Mohamed Jameel is part of the interim government. That government will facilitate the formation of a free judiciary," he said.

The leader of the United Opposition Dr. Mohamed Jameel had announced the shadow cabinet. The VP of the shadow cabinet is MDP Chairperson Ali Waheed. Former Defense Minister Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim and Sheikh Imran Abdulla are serving as cabinet advisors.
