Criminal Court has delayed announcing verdicts for former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, former Managing Director of Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) Abdullah Ziyath and Adeeb's uncle Hamid Ismail. The verdict was to be announced last night.
The hearing, scheduled for 11 pm last night, was cancelled by Criminal Court, citing that they needed to review the case.
Misappropriation charges were filed against the three for depositing the proceeds for the lease of Lh. Maabinhuraa by MMPRC to Millennium Capital account. Hamid is a shareholder of Millennium Capital.
The charges against Adeeb, Ziyath and Hamid says the state should receive US$ 5 million from the lease of the island. Part of the proceeds were deposited into Millennium Capital account and US$1.5 million and US$ 800000 had been deposited into Montillion, a company owned by the former VP. The charges raised against the three said the entire procedure was taken up on the orders of Adeeb.
Adeeb had already earned a sentence of 10 years and 15 years on two counts. In addition to the MMPRC case, an additional charge had been raised against Ziyath. The hearings of the case are currently underway. This is the only case filed against Hamid.
