CNM halts operations

Local online news, CNM has suspended operations five years after operations began.

A senior official of the paper reported last night to Avas that CNM operations were suspended after some shareholders of the paper had said they did not wish to continue operations in light of the intense political pressure on them. The office is now closed and the employees have been instructed to go home. The official said the website is now no longer available online.

The decision was a sudden one, as the website was operational three hours before the official was contacted for a comment.

Businessman Mohamed Ali Janah was one of the key shareholders of the company and previously rumors had sufrced that Janah had given up his shares in the venture.

It was not determined whether publication was halted because Janah wanted it or if he still holds shares. Rumors have spread the shareholder had already initiated proceedings to dissolve the parent company of the paper.

CNM had been a vocal critic of the Government.
