Judiciary became an issue when MDP was rejected: MUO

Maldives United Opposition (MUO) has said that judiciary was beyond reform when MDP was denied the opportunity to initiate reforms.

Speaking in the press conference held by the Opposition, former President Mohamed Nasheed’s lawyer Hisaan Hussain said the Government’s influence had steeped the judiciary.

Hisaan said corruption and injustice had taken root in country, when MDP was forcibly removed from power in 2008. She said that increasing educational and technical abilities of employees in the sector is hardly likely to improve the status of the sector.

Even though, Hisaan had stated this, various violations against the judiciary were carried out during Nasheed’s tenure as President. During his tenure, the Judicial Service Commission was hijacked, Supreme Court barred and a Judge was illegally detained.
