Some in the society wish ill on Police: Zuhoor

Home Minister Ahmed Zuhoor on Saturday night warned of individuals who sought out to use and manipulate Police to fulfill their political aspirations and in the process defame the Police.

Speaking in the Police Memorial Day ceremony, held to honor those who had died in the line of duty, Minister Zuhoor said there was a culture of deliberately seeking out to hinder others and backbiting. However, he said that Police have to be free from such influences and have to work in fulfilling their national duties and obligations.

The Minister said that all citizens have to be appreciative of the work carried out by the Police. He said Police have earned a bad reputation due to the work carried out by certain individuals to defame the Police.

"Today to achieve a political purposes, political leaders are using the Police, urging people to abuse the Police. Political figures are not above spouting half-truths and lies to achieve their purposes. But I have no doubts that Police officers are of sound mind and sincere in their efforts. We have to remain united," Zuhoor said.

Minister Zuhoor said that Police face immense challenges and urged the Police not to become politicized. He said that in the event Police became politicized, the fate of the nation will become even more dire. He said the actions of a few and will only damage the citizens.

Zuhoor said that Police who had died in line of service were exemplary individuals and that their sacrifice will not be forgotten. He said the Ministry will analyze the current situation in order to increase the benefits and assistance granted to the families of those who had died in line of the service.
