The interim Committee to review the government proposed Defamation Bill has held the first meeting, elected the Chair and Vice-Chair.
The first meeting of the Committee was held shortly after the Committee was formed. Kudahuvadhoo Constituency MP Ahmed Amir had proposed Nilandhoo Constituency MP Dr. Abdullah Khaleel as a nominee for the chair of the Committee, which was seconded by Gemanafushi Constituency MP Jameel Usman. The nomination was passed with the majority of the Committee members voting in favor of the motion.
MP Ahmed Amir was voted in as the Vice Chair of the Committee; passed with the majority votes as well.
Dr. Khaleel said the Committee will begin review of the bill in the next meeting of the Committee.
