Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) Managing Director Abdullah Shujau has stated that the company is now prioritizing on opening HDh. Naagoashi and that the resort will create around 200 jobs for locals.
Speaking to Avas, MTDC MD Shujau said they will be able to open the resort in next year season and will be accessible to locals as well.
"We hope to open the resort mid next year, around the season," he said in the first interview granted to a local media.
The property will be the first resort to open in HDh. Atoll and is developed by Russia's 3K International. Fifty percent of work on the property is now completed. Naagoashi is a 600 bed property. MTDC said work on the resort halted due to global economic slowdown but work had picked up since then.
"At first [we] may not be able to commission 600 beds after opening. Resort operation will benefit nearby communities," Shujau said.
MTDC said they had planned to develop additional properties as well. The company earned a profit of US$ 2.2 million.
