- Increased profitability for customers
- Government wishes to strengthen MTDC
- Can compete with foreign brands
Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) Managing Director Abdullah Shujau has stated the MTDC is now targeting to compete with international firms.
Speaking to Avas, Shujau said the company was completely overhauling their business strategy and planning to create a solid brand.
"Hopefully we will be able to create a brand for MTDC that will be able to thrive in a competitive market. While we develop our own resorts, create a local brand able to compete against international brands," Shujau said.
He added that with these changes, the company will be able to change their outlook to generate profits for their shareholders in the coming two to three years.
MTDC has been operating on a model where the company subleases islands for development to other parties. In order to change their outlook the company had announced that they will be selling off Dh. Emboodhoofushi-Olhuveli, home to Per Aquum Niyaama, to the current operators for US$ 23.3 million.
