President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom has issued a public apology over the massive embezzlement case at Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).
Speaking in Fuvahmulah City last night, President Yameen said the embezzlement had occurred within the Government and as such he apologizes for it from the public. He pledged that this will not happen again.
"Even tonight I want to apologize for the MMPRC fraud, it occurred within this Government," he said.
He added the discussion on MMPRC case was open to public, adding the Government will not halt speech on this.
The MMPRC audit, initiated on Presidential orders, show that MVR 1.2 billion was siphoned off from state funds. Some of the individuals behind the graft have been tried and found guilty of the charges. The senior most figure in the whole graft scheme was former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb.
