Head of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom requests to attend the High Court hearing for overturning the Civil Court ruling, allowing temporary control of the party to President Abdulla Yameen.
PPM's case is scheduled for today morning. According to a tweet today by the official PPM twitter account, former President Maumoon requested the High Court to allow him to be a respondent for today's case.
The Civil Court ordered the management of the Party be handed over to President Abdulla Yameen last Sunday after a case was filed in court regarding the disputes inside PPM which put a halt on council meetings. And the council meeting held that night decided that the Chief Adviser of the Party, President Yameen would lead the Party until a national meeting could be held.
Former President Maumoon defied this ruling, and started holding his own council meetings. Maumoon says that the Party law clearly dictates that the Chief Adviser has no role in running the Party, and that the ruling is against Party laws. PPM is trying to get this ruling overturned in the High Court.
