Int'l travel fair key to boost Maldives tourism, research group says

Renowned research group LexisNexis has stressed on the importance of hosting an international travel fair in the Maldives to promote tourism

The report released by the world famous research group noted the significance of enhancing promotional efforts to the European market along with channeling more focus towards the dwindling Chinese market.

The report also advises to host an event along with the special sectors of Maldivian tourism, including the spa and wellness sector, hotels and resorts as well as major airlines.

The LexisNexis advise comes at a time when a local company called 'Maldivian Getaways' is preparing to hold an event called Travel Trade Maldives (TTM) in July next year with a target of bringing in two million tourists to the Maldives.

The fair is set to host 150 local and foreign travel agents, as well as a 100 resorts along with the heads of tourist hotels. Fifty journalists are also going to be participating in this event.

This report was released by LexisNexis under the efforts of the Tourism Ministry to promote Maldivian tourism.

This report details the growth of Maldivian tourism since 1972. According to the report, the start of Maldivian tourism was the arrival of 44 tourists on a charter flight from Sri Lanka 44 years ago. The first tourist group visited the Maldives on the 16th of February,1972.
