PPM crisis

PPM will not remain paralyzed: Ilham

Recently joined member of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Ilham Ahmed says that PPM will not remain paralyzed on the streets. Ilham, who is the Parliament Member of the Dhangethi constituency, says that if former President Maumoon does not accept this fact, then he will have to arrive with a presidential candidate that he supports.

Speaking at Television Maldives's "Raajje Miadhu" program, Ilham said that the public members of PPM are still with the party and that control of the party now lies with the chief adviser, President Yameen. He also said that no member of the party would wish to lose votes, even if the reason of the loss is former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom.

"He (President Maumoon) has defied the courts ruling and the people of Maldives will not accept this. His followers do not support the MDP( Maldivian Democratic Party) philosophy and if he continues to act this way, he may lose the love of his followers," Ilham said.

Ilham also said that the efforts ongoing in court are necessary to determine the leadership of the Party, and that it is crucial to the progress and development of the country.

"PPM is connected to the stability of this country. PPM is connected to the revenue of this country. This is because PPM is the ruling party, and it cannot be kept paralyzed on the streets forever," Ilham declared.

Ilham said that stability will only return to the country when PPM is no longer paralyzed, and that if former President Maumoon does not accept this fact, then he will have to move away from the party.

"Rather than criticizing PPM and having disputes, President Maumoon must also arrive with respect," Ilham said.

Ilham, who recently left his post as Deputy Leader of Jumhooree Party, said that there is no question of whether PPM will win the local council elections. He says that this will be the result of the strategies devised by President Yameen.

Ilham also said that President Yameen is the only leader he saw who is brave enough to make difficult decisions at critical times, and that President Yameen is a "Tough" person. Ilham said that President Yameen will come to a decision whenever he must, and that he is a smart and extraordinary person.
