Local Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has been awarded to manage waste in the reclaimed suburb Hulhumale on Thursday.
Wamco's Managing Director Ibrahim Fuad signed the agreement with Managing Director of Housing and Development Corporation (HDC), Mohamed Saiman.
Saiman noted that such agreements in the past have failed to find a sustainable solution for waste management in Hulhumale.
HDC has been managing the garbage compound of the island with a population of almost 30,000, but Wamco cleans the compound once a week.
Wamco is also working on efforts to manage waste in the capital Male' as well as nearby island Villimale.
