Gayoom's ruling party office stripped bare

The former main office of the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has been stripped bare, the name board becoming the latest casualty.

The board was removed by a group of people who arrived in front of the office at 10:30 am Sunday. No comments have been given by any official of PPM as of yet regarding this matter.

All the PPM equipment had been transferred to the new office at 'Dharubaaruge' last Friday. Documents, computer systems and furniture were taken from the office at Thema to be moved to the new office at 'Dharubaaruge'.

Supporters of the party leader Maumoon Abdul Gayoom had protested the taking of these items. The court has sentenced to transfer the party leadership from former Gayyoom to his younger brother and the party's chief adviser, incumbent President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

The elder Gayoom has been holding steadfast in his defiance of the court's ruling.
