Obesity and dental problems are the top health concerns for Maldivian teens, a report has shown.

A teenage health screen report released Tuesday has shown that one in every four teenager suffers from oral health issues.

The report based on health screens of over 4,000 seventh graders shows that obesity, anaemia and diabetics plague the particular age group in the archipelago.

Over 25 percent of the 2,114 boys are overweight, while nearly 13 percent are underweight. In contrast over 30 percent of girls in the age category are underweight while over 21 percent suffer from obesity.

Health ministry says the objective of the report is to determine health concerns facing youth in the Maldives and formulate preventive measure to ensure better health for Maldives' young generation.
