Top Singapore firm to design Maldives' iHavan master plan

Maldives government Tuesday awarded the designing of the master plan of iHavan, the integrated project to be operated in the northernmost Ihavandhippolhu atoll to Singapore's top consultancy firm Surbana Jurong (SJ).

SJ is considered Asia’s consultancy powerhouse for urbanization, industrial and infrastructure developments -- boasting a distinguished track record in shaping Singapore’s landscape over the last 50 years.

The iHavan integrated project comprises of the development of harbours and ports, the production, processing and storage of cargo, an international cruise facility, airport and real estate.

Economic minister Mohamed Saeed after signing the agreement with SJ told reporters that the master plan would identify the areas to be reclaimed and build the airport and ports.

"This would be a mega project that would be carried out in a way that minimizes the impact on the environment and other such factors. This master plan would be similar to the one we have for Hulhumale development. So this master plan will help us avoid mistakes when we implement the numerous phases of a project of this magnitude.

SJ would have four months to design the master plan.
