- One prisoner attempted to help others escape
- No prisoner succeeded in their attempts
- Police have increased security
Police have foiled the efforts of some inmates from breaking out of a detention facility in Dhoonidhoo island.
Police said the attempted breakout occurred around 3:30 AM on Monday, after an inmate broke the lock on his cell and escaped to the corridor. The inmate then had helped break the lock on several other cells and attempted a mass breakout.
However, this soon came to the attention of the police who were monitoring security at the prison and the attempt was quickly foiled.
"Dhoonidhoo Prison's security has been ensured and the situation is now under control," police said. The police also state that all the prisoners have been tallied and that precautionary steps have been taken.
"No prisoner managed to escape, they are all still locked up," police stated.
