Fire spreads as warehouse burns in Maldives capital

  • The burning building is a Brotherhood warehouse
  • Smoke has spread to the entire area
  • Building has almost completely collapsed

A fire broke-out in a warehouse in Kafidhoo house in Machchangoalhi ward in the capital Male on Monday.

Firefighters are are currently working to control the fire as the flames spread to nearby buildings.

The 'Avas' reporter on the scene said the area is completely engulfed in smoke.

A member of the Maldives National Defense Force has also been injured on the scene, when a glass plate fell on his face, injuring his ear during early attempts to control the fire.

No other injuries have been reported thus far.

The fire has spread to nearby buildings, and people have been evacuated from the houses close to the fire.

The warehouse has completely burned down and the building has begun to collapsed.

The fire will reportedly cause a loss of MVR 40 million to Brotherhood.

The spreading of the fire has been controlled after efforts of the Fire and Rescue department.
