Singapore firm to automate Maldives airport cargo service

SATS Company from Singapore has been contracted to automate the cargo handling service of the Velana International Airport (VIA).

The Maldives Airports Company (MACL) said transporting cargo between customs and the airlines would be easier once this project was completed.

Signing the agreement on behalf of MACL was the company's Managing Director, Adheel Moosa. Signing on behalf on SATS was President of Gateway Support and Projects.

MACL revealed that the new system would expand cargo handling services to the level planned by the company.

This system is also used in 16 other airports on Asia and South America. The government has initiated a mega USD800 million project to expand the main airport which includes an additional runway and modern terminal building.
