Maldives airport to open new global franchises this year

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has said the recently announced international restaurant franchises would open at the Maldives' main airport within this year.

MACL Managing Director Adil Moosa said the opportunity to apply to operate the franchise brands expired on Tuesday adding that the opportunity was well received.

Adil said the work on tender documents for the deal would begin this week, and informed that all interested parties would receive six weeks to prepare the relevant proposals. Companies that win the bid will begin work as early as next as April.

"All the brands we have requested to have expressed interest. We are bringing 5 maybe 6 brands," he said.

MACL had the said the airport would welcome six new franchises including McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Starbucks and KFC.

The airport operator had said the franchises will be set up near the waterfront area of the airport, adding that the introduction of these franchises would improve the economic condition of the airport.
