Maldives govt stresses need for more trained firemen

Following a spate recent of fire disasters in the capital Male, defence minister Adam Shareef Umar Friday stressed in the growing need for trained firemen in the archipelago.

Shareef made the statement while attending the Industrial Fire Brigade Course graduation ceremony. The Defence Minister also awarded certificates to those who had completed the course.

The Minister said the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) were always working to better train firemen, noting that the military held national security above their own lives.

The Minister also assured that MNDF would always attempt to protect the lives of Maldivians, and that they will work to protect the public as well public goods during a catastrophe.

Fifteen employees of the resort completed the course on Kanuhura and the Fire and Rescue Training School from the 29th of September 2016 to the 5th of October 2016. The course taught the participants how to react in case of a fire, and how to properly combat it.

The number of fires has increased in the Maldives in the recent past, with more major incidents becoming commonplace.
