Military denies pulling-out Gayoom's security detail

Military on Sunday denied recent rumours suggesting that former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom had been denied a security detail during a trip abroad.

Gayoom had left abroad on Thursday and the military allegedly had ordered his security detail to remain in the country.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) spokesperson captain Ibrahim Azim however, insisted that the claims were baseless and unfounded.

After a recent change in regulation, Gayoom's security detail had however been downgraded.

The change came amid a fallout between the elder Gayoom and his half brother incumbent president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

The power struggle between the two Gayoom brothers, saw the civil court handover ruling party control to the younger Gayoom.
