Officials foil attempt to smuggle drugs into prison

Prison officials have foiled an attempt to smuggle drugs into Maafushi Prison, concealed in the clothing sent to inmate.

Correctional services said the drugs were found during a search of some items sent to an inmate by the family.

Corrections said actions remain a major obstacle to the rehabilitation process of the inmates, insisting that such behaviour by a few was harming the families of other prisoners.

There has been an increase in the number of reports of attempts to smuggle contraband into prison.
